Neels is an armoured vehicle design engineer, engine and exhaust simulation and specification specialist.

His master’s thesis was in 2-stroke exhaust simulation, The output of his thesis is software to simulate thermodynamics and gas dynamics to predict engine performance.

Neels started racing 50cc classes in 1973. Co-riding with Koos Zietsman they won the Transvaal 6-hour endurance championships from 1982 to 1985.

He tuned motorcycles for National riders from the 1980’s until recently, winning various National Championships in the process.

He was also the tuner for 1991 Wayne Doran 250GP excursion to Europe, but was cheated out of funds by an Italian team manager and had to return halfway through the season.
