Piet van Zyl

Specialist Gear Design Engineer

Piet is a Transmission Design Engineer.

He migrated to the UK in 1991 to work as a Transmission Design Engineer for McLaren F1. He did this until 2005. During this time McLaren won F1 world championships with his gears. He introduced the design and manufacture of high pressure angle, high efficiency spur gears at McLaren, and developed techniques for manufacturing them using wire erosion which is now the accepted norm for spur gear prototyping in this industry.

He was a Senior Design Engineer at Xtrac Transmission Technology from 2006 to 2013

Piet started his PVZ Gears consultancy in 2004.
